We hosted our family for Thanskgiving in our small apartment and it went great. At the beginning of the party everyone hung out in the kitchen and the adjacent foyer. It was a bit crowded in there and soon the guys moved more towards the living room.
Dream and I prepared our side dishes ahead of time so they just needed to be reheated. We put the Turkey in the oven before everyone arrived. It was a precooked Turkey from Publix but it still took a couple of hours to reheat in the oven. Dream’s parent brought the ingredients for their sides and cooked them when they arrived.
Everyone chatted and mingled while everything was cooking. I put out a tray of snacks to keep everyone held over until dinner was ready. I had planed to have a couple of coolers for drinks, but we ended up just having one cooler on the porch which was used for beer. The rest of the drinks we kept in the refridgerator and everyone helped themselves from there. I did also put some Capri Suns in a bowl for the kids to grab from since they are more hesitant to dig through the fridge.
For entertainment we had Just Dance 2014 playing on the Playstation in the living room and everyone had fun watching the kids dance.
When it came time for dinner we had the bar part of the counter full of various side dishes and put the rest on our dining room table. Everyone filled their plates and sat whereever they could find a spot.
After dinner everyone lounged around and enjoyed the rest of the evening talking and hanging out. Everyone had a great time and I’d call the event a complete success. If you live in a small space, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t entertain. You don’t need a huge house to entertain, and I’d even say the smaller space felt more intimate than having people spread throughout several rooms in a large house.
For those of you in the United States, how did your Thankgiving go? And for everyone, have you ever entertained in small space, and if so, how did it go?
