One of my goals when I decided to lead a more minimal life was to free up some money for giving. Some of this takes the form of giving among friends and family – buying dinners, paying for events, and supplying the eggs for Easter egg hunts. Some of this also includes more traditional charities. Now, any time someone asks me to support their charity of choice I always make a donation. These are often things like charity walks or runs, but can also include supporting their children’s events or activities.
The one thing I’ve struggled with is finding worthwhile charities outside of my circle of friends. I know there are websites dedicated to finding and rating charities, but my head starts swimming with too many choices every time I start looking through the lists.
I recently started an email conversation with a reader who is working to make this easier. Her name is Kathleen and she is in the process of starting a business that would make is easy to donate to worthwhile charities. She does the work in finding good charities to support and narrows the list down to two or three charities.
Kathleen makes it super easy for me to send a donation via paypal and she takes care of all the work of making sure my money goes towards a good cause.
She’s in the very early stages of getting things together and since I really like what she has planned I offered to support her with a donation and a blog post. As she is just getting established, she will take a portion of the donation to grow the business. As a thank you for each donation she will be listing your website, business, or name in an online directory. This is a nice gesture, but to me the real reward is to be able to support someone’s dream of helping others, while also funding some worthwhile charity organizations.
If you can’t spare the $40 right now, I completely understand. You can choose to donate any amount. Even as little as $1 can make a difference. You can also help the cause by sharing a link to this post or to the donation website. http://igg.me/at/showcase
We moved over the weekend. We’re happy to be in the new place, and are still working our way through unboxing. I’ll have all the details in an upcoming post. I’ll also have a new bike commute update in the next few days.
