We received a letter from the courthouse last week and we were excited as we opened it. We expected it to be the letter telling us the court date for our name change. Instead it was a request for our daughter’s birth certificate. We mailed a copy of the birth certificate and are again waiting to be notified of our court date.
Just to be safe we emailed a copy of our marriage license too. I read somewhere that it was required, but they never asked for it. Hopefully they have everything they need now and we can get on with this.
We really want to have our name change complete before our daughter enters second grade. We have five months, which sounds like a lot of time, but I have no idea how long the court process takes.

Argh, I’m so sorry about all the delays. I know someone that went through a name change as well, similar to your story. He moved to a different state, and just started over with his wife and their new last name (his family had been abusive to him.)
I know eventually it all worked out, and he feels so much better.
