Just over a year ago we sold our house and moved into an apartment. We signed a 15 month lease for our current apartment. The end of our 15 month lease will be here in a month and a half. As our lease comes to an end, we have decided to move to a different apartment. We decided to move for a number of reasons, which I mentioned in our What’s in Store for 2013 post.
The main reason is a mosquito problem that management hasn’t bothered to do anything about. Our new apartment will have a front door off an interior hallway as the entry way (like a hotel or high rise apartment), so mosquitoes won’t be a problem.
We are slowly transitioning into moving mode. We bought 25 moving boxes to start with. We also bought one pack of packing paper and a roll of packing tape on a dispenser. It will be interesting to see how this move compares to our first move. I’m looking forward to see if we use fewer boxes. I think we have less stuff overall than we did when we moved in.
We did a major kid’s room purge a few months ago and we’ve done a few mini purges here and there as well. I know we also added a few things, however. I’m hoping we end up with less. If not, we’re going to need to take a good look at what we have and why we have it.
We’ll probably do that anyway as we begin packing. We already packed some dishes, and we purged as we went. We got rid of a small collection of water bottles. It’s funny how those things tend to collect.
I also cleaned out a box of miscellaneous computer hardware, cords, and electronics that has lived behind our bedroom door for the past year. I was finally able to let go of most of it. I put away the few things I needed to keep and trashed or donated the rest.
We’re planning to hire movers again. We had a good experience with Two Men and a Truck so we’re planning to use them again.
I’ll document our progress over the coming weeks as we pack in preparation for our move.
