I’m continuing to see improvements on all fronts. Running is getting increasingly easier. I’ve been alternating between long jogs and intervals. In week seven I decided try a longer run. I went for two laps around the block making a 1.6 mile run. I liked the challenge of doing the longer run, and I’ll continue to add some longer runs into the mix. Who knows, maybe someday I’ll go for a 5k.
My intervals have been improving with me being able to run faster and maintain that faster speed for longer. I can really feel the cardio aspect more when I do the intervals vs the long runs. My lungs burn for air after each run portion.
I’ve been trying to listen to my body when deciding which nights to run. I started out running every day, and I think that was a necessary part of starting the habit. Now that I have the habit of running established, I have switched to running most nights and taking nights of when I feel like it is needed and beneficial.
I haven’t been as good with my situps and pushups. I’m doing the almost every day, but I’m not getting three sets I every day. It’s been more like one or two sets each day. On the plus side I’m doing twenty pushups and fifteen to twenty situps in each set.
Even though I’m a little short of my goal, I am seeing the results when I hit the playground with my daughter. I’m getting better at the monkey bars. 🙂
I usually knock out a few pulls ups too, just for fun.
I also added a bike ride I place of my runs a couple of times. I wanted to try this because I’d like to try riding my bike to work. That ride would be a distance of nine miles. I think it’s possible to do in an hour on my single speed beach cruiser, but after looking at possible routes, I’m not sure it would be feasible. The roads on the route don’t have any shoulder and would put me a little closer to the traffic than I’m comfortable with.
Overall, I’m happy with my progress.
