I started my Rethinking Fitness routine yesterday, just before my first Rethinking Fitness post. I come up with a lot of hair-brained ideas, and I’ve learned to test them at least once before I blog about them.
I spread my pushups and situps throughout the day, 10 at a time for a total of 30 each. That worked well. It was just enough where I could feel it, but not so much that it hurt.
I also did my first run. I ran four times with long walks in between. I was super winded after the first run, and I felt like my lungs were going to burst. I walked until I caught my breath and then did another run. I repeated that for a total of four runs. Before the run I did a bit of stretching, making sure to stretch my thighs and calves.
Normally when I start a new workout, I start out hard and fast, which causes me to be sore for the next couple of days. This time I started out slow and didn’t feel sore at all today. I did feel the muscles burn a bit when I started my situps and pushups though, so I know they were getting a workout. They felt a little tight and I could really feel it by my tenth pushup and situp.
I didn’t get a chance to do ten of each this morning, so I packed all three sets of ten into the afternoon, with an hour or two between sets.
Tonight’s run felt a bit different. I didn’t feel as winded during my first run, but my muscles fatigued faster. That repeated itself during each of my four runs. By the third run I my right thigh was starting to hurt a bit. My fourth run was a short one and then I walked the rest of the way.
All in all, I think things are starting off well.
