We decided to sell most of our furniture before moving out of our 4 bedroom, 3 bath house and into a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment. There are three reasons for this. The first reason is that it makes it easier if we don’t have to move it. Second, it won’t all fit in the apartment. Third, Dream wanted something different for the apartment. We had several discussions over the third, and in the end, we decided to go ahead and sell all the old stuff and get some new furniture.
We placed ads on craigslist to sell the old furniture. We had a dining room table, a dinette set, a couch and chair set, a nice leather living room set, a coffee table, and a sofa table.
The dining room table had some scratches on top from the cats, but the chairs were in good shape. We listed it for $250 and sold it for $200.
The couch and chair were white and upholstered in fabric. We had them listed for $300. The leather set was listed for $1500. I had a couple offers on the leather set, the best being $1100. The couple that purchased that asked for a deal if they also bought the fabric set, so we sold that set for $150, bringing the total to $1250 for both sets.
The coffee table ended up selling at the garage sale. We had it listed on craigslist for $75 and ended up selling it for $40.
The sofa table was listed for $75 and sold for $60.
The dinette set was listed for $300 and sold for $250.
The total profit from the sale of furniture was $1800 and we ended up buying a new living room set and new dinette set for $2000. We scoped out craigslist for a couple of weeks looking for furniture to buy, but just didn’t come across anything that we liked. We are definitely open to buying used items, but there was just nothing that suited us. We visited a few furniture stores and ended up buying a two piece sectional with a sleeper and a glass top dinette set from Rooms to Go.
It’s scheduled to be delivered on the day we sign the lease. It will be nice to have something different, and it helps us “nest” a little in our new place.
After selling the dinette set, which was the final piece, Faith said, “now we have nowhere to sit and nowhere to eat.” At least we still have our beds, so we have a place to sleep. We’ve been mostly sitting on the floor and eating on the floor or at the kitchen counter. We’ve been eating out a little more this week too, since most of our cooking stuff is packed. We’re looking forward to the move; only a couple days to go.
