In case you haven’t noticed, I like to experiment and try new things. Sometimes those new things are fun, profitable, helpful, and/or worth continuing year after year (This blog for example). Other times, I lose interest, they don’t catch on, or they simply don’t work out for whatever reason.
It’s good to reevaluate things from time to time, and the start of a new year is as good a time as any.
Some Changes Around Here
I spent some time considering the future of Rethinking the Dream, my other blogs, Facebook pages and groups, clutter coaching, YouTube channel, book writing, and my quest for an online income stream.
Here are the highlights:
- New Facebook page – Eric West Minimalist – sharing only stuff that’s worth your time to read.
- Free hour of clutter coaching – every Wednesday at 5pm US Eastern – Sign up here.
- Pay what you want clutter coaching – details here.
- Discounts on Joshua Becker’s Uncluttered Course.
In order to gain clarity, I focused on which areas “felt” right. My feelings tell me to follow my heart. Sounds cliche, but I often sidetrack into chasing financial opportunities or get caught up in “it’s fun at the moment” things. My soul searching is leading to a few changes and more focus in a few key areas.
Rethinking the Dream
You’ll be happy to hear that I will continue write and create new content at Rethinking the Dream. I love sharing stories of family-style minimalism, tips on decluttering, and advocating for those of us that choose renting over home ownership. The articles and stories on this blog help a lot of people, and even if I’m not the most popular blog on the corner, enough people find me that it’s entirely worthwhile for me to continue.
One of my biggest changes is to my clutter coaching. I pondered this topic on and off over the past several weeks. Clutter Coaching is not a significant portion of my online income, and quite honestly not many people have booked coaching sessions.
However, I immensely enjoy my work as a Clutter Coach. It is incredibly rewarding to me on a personal level as I assist people in a total lifestyle transformation through decluttering. I tingle with adrenalin and excitement each time I work with a Clutter Coaching client.
The conflict I have been feeling is one of money. In the back of my mind I always have this lingering thought that I want to eventually replace my day job income with income earned online. Part of this could be through coaching. The thing is, I am making enough income in my day job, and I don’t really need the income from coaching. Sure it would be nice, but at the core of my being, I want to help people.
So… I am announcing the following changes:
Clutter Coaching Free Hour
I am opening up a free hour of clutter coaching every Wednesday at 5:00 US Eastern time. You might think of it like office hours for a college professor. Every Wednesday at 5:00 I will be available to provide free coaching to anyone that wants it.
If you are looking for a little extra help or need someone to talk to, I am available. Even if you are working a declutter plan or taking a class with one of the other famous minimalism/declutter bloggers, I’m happy to supplement that effort with some free one-on-one coaching.
I have one rule: Only book one session at a time. After we complete a clutter coaching session, you are welcome to book another free hour if there are any available.
Additional Clutter Coaching Availability
I know that not everyone is available during my free clutter coaching hour. If you need time outside of the free hour, then I ask for a small donation to support my work. This is a Pay Want You Want (PWYW) system. Some call this type of payment a love offering.
If you want to schedule a PWYW Clutter Coaching session, contact me through my contact page to request a session. We’ll find a time that works for both of us, and get it scheduled.
For more details on my free clutter coaching and the PWYW coaching, visit my Clutter Coaching page.
Uniting my Brands
I currently have three blogs that are still active. Rethinking the Dream is the only one I post to regularly, but I want to tie them all together in some way. I created new logos for each to get things started (kind of a preliminary step.)
Phase One is uniting all my content under a new Facebook Page titled “Eric West Minimalist“.
You can visit the page to see the new logos for my sites and to learn about my other blogs. Be sure to Like and Follow the page to keep up with all my latest blog posts. I also plan to share other interesting articles, memes, and posts as I come across them. Similar to what I was doing on MinimalYou, I only share the best posts — ones I feel are worth your time to read.
Phase Two – I haven’t gotten that far yet, LOL! Some potential plans are to rebrand my YouTube channel to Eric West Minimalist and to figure out what to do with my Minimal You blog. I like the concept of Minimal You, sharing the best articles from around the Internet on the topic of Minimalism, but it was taking too much of my time. I’m open to suggestions if anyone has any ideas.
Book and Course on Decluttering
I have a vision of a complete course on decluttering. Something that will help you completely declutter your home in a short period of time. Joshua Becker of Becoming Minimalist created something similar last year, but I think there is still room for some friendly competition to his offering.
I’m slowly planning, writing content, and working towards this goal. It feels painfully slow, but with a full time job and the happy demands of a family, I find my time limited to work on this project. I’m plugging away when I have time, and eventually I’ll have it all assembled.
If you are looking for something now, I definitely suggest checking it Joshua Becker’s course. You can save 25% if you buy his book, The More of Less: Finding the Life You Want Under Everything You Own. Details are here: Uncluttered Course.
Odds and Ends
My Rethinking the Dream Facebook group will continue to operate. We have a great group of people with a wide range of experience in minimalism, decluttering, and downsizing. It’s not an overly active group that will flood your Facebook feed, but they are quick to share when anyone asks for help or wants to share some wins.
As always I love hearing from you. Share what changes you are making this year or tell me about some things you’d like me to write about. You can share in the comments section below or in our Facebook group.
