The waiting is torturous. Even more so than keeping the house clean, the waiting for our house to sell is tough. We are ready to move on. We have our plan in place, yet we can’t move forward until our house sells. It has been on the market for about three weeks now and we have had two showings. That is probably not a bad number really, especially given the current state of the real estate market. I keep telling myself that it only takes one interested person to buy our home. I feel like the right person for our home is out there somewhere. I am just waiting for them to find us.
In the meantime we are keeping the house extra clean, and we are trying to do whatever we can to get ready for a move. After our first garage sale last year, I was not looking forward to doing another one, but now I’m kind of anxious to have one. Anxious because I know the next one will be preparing us to leave our house and move on with our life.
We cannot have the next garage sale until the house sale is finalized though, because most everything that needs to be sold is somehow tied to the house. Things like lawn equipment, household tools, and furniture. It is all stuff that we need to keep on hand while we own the house, but as soon as we sell it, most of that stuff can go. For now, we are starting a small pile of stuff in the garage for when we do have our final garage sale at our house.
We’re continuing to clean out cabinets and bookshelves. The cleaning out makes us feel like we’re making some progress while we wait.
Our daughter is ready too. She’s ready to live closer to her grandparents and her cousins, and she’s growing tired of keeping the house spotless. She also craves adventure, and this is a really big adventure to her – to all of us really.
So for now, we continue to wait while we tell ourselves over and over that the right person will find us soon, and they will fall in love with our house the way we did ten years ago.
