We usually try to keep our house in fairly good order. We tend to accumulate some small piles of stuff on the counter tops, and sometimes Faith’s toys don’t get put away when she’s done playing with them.
Now that we have to be ready to show the house on relatively short notice, we’ve been keeping the entire house immaculate. This is a whole level of clean that we’re not used to. It sure is a good thing we purged most of our useless belongings, because I’m not sure we’d be able to keep everything looking nice with all that extra junk lying around.
Our routine now is that every night before bed we make sure everything is put away. Additionally, we make an effort to put things away as soon as we are done using them. This kind of stuff is probably what we should be doing anyway, so maybe we’ll develop a habit that will stick with us after we move.
It is really kind of nice to have the house looking spic ‘n span all the time. We repainted some spots in the garage that had been pretty much neglected over the past ten years. Garages tend to accumulate scuff marks and dirt and dust. It looks like brand new out there now, so much nicer to look at every day when we come home. The office shelves are clear, the counter tops stay mostly clear, and Dream vacuums nearly every day.
I suppose that living like you are going to show your house to potential buyers everyday can really motivate you to keep things clean and organized.
